As part of its ongoing collaboration with Rambert Dance Company, Rambert School has worked on a number of projects with the company’s Artistic Director Mark Baldwin. This has included the commissioning of new choreography with students which is shared through public performance and film, and most recently, the restaging of Baldwin’s Rite of Spring.
For students, the experience of working on a professional project leading to performance in major venues such as Sadler’s Wells and the Royal Opera House is likely to make the transition between work and employment easier. Several students who worked with Mark Baldwin in the studio have subsequently gained employment with a new touring production of ‘Inala‘, which presents musicians Ladysmith Black Mambazo in a unique artistic collaboration with choreography by Baldwin.
These projects foster the exchange and integration of professional expertise into the culture of both Rambert Company and Rambert School. School teachers and accompanists also provide guest classes for the Company, whilst Rambert Company dancers are invited to provide masterclasses for students including technique, repertory classes and improvisation and choreographic workshops.
