Central School of Ballet | Dance
Ballet Central gives audiences across the country the chance to see the company’s young and dynamic dancers who are on the cusp of their professional careers, showcasing newly commissioned works and celebrated masterpieces by the dance industry’s top choreographers.
With a chance to see the rising stars in dance theatre, Ballet Central returns with a brand new programme showcasing the best in international dance. Under the artistic direction of Christopher Marney, these young dancers on the cusp of their professional careers perform a mixed bill featuring works by world-renowned choreographers.
Following the brilliant response to Kenneth MacMillan’s piece in the 2018 tour, Ballet Central is honoured to present another excerpt from MacMillan’s works, House of Birds, based on the Grimm Brothers’ macabre fairy tale, Jorinda and Joringel.
The Company is also delighted to present an extract from Frederick Ashton’s acclaimed Valses Nobles et Sentimentales performed to Maurice Ravel’s suite of waltzes. We also present Jasmin Vardimon’s (in between), a physical contemporary work first created with the National Youth Dance Company in 2013.
And for the first time, Ballet Central is collaborating with Thiago Soares, principal dancer with the Royal Ballet, who has created a new work with Ballet Central’s young dancers. Calvin Richardson has created a unique version of The Dying Swan Solo after Mikhail Fokin. And to conclude, Christopher Marney, Artistic Director of Ballet Central will revive his Carousel Dances, inspired by the 1945 musical Carousel by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein.
