LAMDA: The Taming of the Shrew

LAMDA | Drama

Written by William Shakespeare
Directed by Rebecca Frecknell
Performed at The Sainsbury Theatre

Beautiful Bianca, desperate to fly the nest, cannot marry until her ‘shrewish’ older sister Katherine does. Fiercely independent Kate can think of nothing worse…

The question of whether the play is misogynistic remains a subject of debate. Despite this controversy, The Taming of the Shrew remains a classic and has been adapted for screen, opera, ballet and musical theatre, including Cole Porter’s Kiss Me, Kate, the 1967 film of the play starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton and the 1999 romantic-comedy film loosely based on the play, 10 Things I Hate About You.

This production is ideal for students.
