Staff Seminar: Practice as Research

Research Mentor Professor Paul Allain led a staff development session on Practice as Research on 8 July 2015. Attended by staff from across the eight schools, the hands on session first explored the parameters of Practice as Research and its complexities before looking at specific case studies. The afternoon included a presentation by Polish scholar and theatre director Dr Grzegorz Ziolkowski on his acting research as well as a film and presentation by Peter Hulton of Arts Archives.

Dr Grzegorz Ziolkowski

Teacher, director, editor, translator, author of books on Peter Brook (2000) and Jerzy Grotowski (2007). He is Professor in the Drama, Theatre and Performance Department of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, where he looks after the Theatre Studio and leads ATIS Acting Techniques Intensive Seminar. He directs Studio ROSA.

Peter Hulton

Peter Hulton is a documentary writer and film-maker. He is the founder and director of Arts Archives – an international digital moving image resource for performance research initiated by the Council of Europe – and has created the Exeter Digital Archives of Performance Practice at Exeter University, UK. His audio-visual documentaries have accompanied publications for Routledge, Methuen, The Drama Review and the Open University.
