Theatres
Several of the Conservatoire schools have their own on-site, purpose-built theatres and performance spaces. RADA, for example, has three theatres: the Vanburgh, Gielgud and GBS. Other schools have forged close links with local theatre venues: Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, in addition to the Bristol Old Vic, performs regularly at the Redgrave Theatre and the Tobacco Factory Theatre.
Conservatoire schools work to ensure that their performance spaces are of the highest quality: The Circus Space, for example, recently underwent redevelopment, creating three new studios and making significant improvements to the lighting and heating in its main performance space, the Combustion Chamber.
Touring Companies
Many of the Conservatoire schools, particularly those in the dance sector, have their own touring companies. These include:
- Ballet Central - formed of third year students at the Central School of Ballet
- EDge - London Contemporary Dance School’s postgraduate company, which tours both in the UK and Europe
- VERVE - Northern School of Contemporary Dance’s graduate company
- LC3 - London Contemporary Dance School’s third year company
In addition, Bristol Old Vic Theatre School tours at schools during the Christmas period. For details of when and where these companies will be performing, please contact the relevant school directly.
